There are different types of firms and they do different type of work funny enough if you look into the history of consulting in the United States notably at McKinsey&co you”ll read about the firm initially being started by a lawyer who hated working at a law firm. The Big 3 consult the government. McKinsey was first hired by Eisenhower to restructure the White House.
The BIG 4 work for the government auditing really large companies that the government officials who have stake in can’t be trusted to remain object about.
And that is entirely the thing. Companies do this when they hire although it’s called a bar raiser. A third party, that doesn’t know anyone in a business or all the dysfunctions you mention can see clarity in things that people too far in the thick of it can see.
And sure alot of ex mckinsey consultants for example are CEOs so they bring in mckinsey for layoffs. It’s shitty but you think that it’s not the CEOs being cowards hiding behind a consultancy?
Or you think there is something fundamentally wrong with how businesses operate that requires the need for consulting companies.
A-lot of companies that expand into other industries need consultants who are specialists in those industry’s or is it less offensive to you if they are called subject matter experts ?
Also lawyers are totally corporate AF
